Ferroalloys industries in the State are set to declare a layoff from April if the State Government does not spare them from the proposed power tariff hike. We will be left with no other option but to shut down our operations if the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission does not find reason behind our viewpoint during the hearing to be held during next month, R.K. Saraf, Managing Director of FACOR, told The Hindu . The existing units, which hitherto enjoy special category status, will not only suffer if the tariff is hiked, the projects in the pipeline will also be in for a big shock. Industry sources say that even they may rethink their plans for investment in the power-intensive ferroalloys sector.
