Visakhapatnam : Vizag goes the healthy way. Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) declared the RK Beach road stretching from Kali Temple to the Park Hotel as 'no vehicle zone' between 5am and 7.30am. To promote fitness among the citizens, GVMC organised a cycle campaign on Friday.
Primary Education Minister S. Sailajanath and Assembly Deputy Speaker Mallu Batti Vikramarka hailed the move of GVMC. Both of them participated in the campaign and peddled with some of the enthusiasts. Dr. Sailajanath has said that this initiative would check pollution in the city and will be helpful in spreading health consciousness.
Sailajanath appealed the people of the city to utilize the 'no vehicle zone' and regularly practice cycling to improve fitness. He congratulated Mayor Janardhan Rao, Municipal Commissioner B Ramanjaneyulu and Police commissioner Purnachander Rao for making efforts to promote health consciousness among citizens.
GVMC has spent Rs. 3 lakhs for free cycling and purchased 100 bicycles. Those intending to utilize the free bicycles would have to register themselves at Zone II and Zone III offices at Asilmetta, SuryaBagh and Swarnabharati Auditorium by producing PAN card, passport, driving license and id card issued by registered employers.
