Ramalinga Raju’s bail plea rejected

5 August 2011

A Special Court on Thursday rejected the bail application of former Satyam Computers chairman B. Ramalinga Raju and six other accused in the multi-crore accounting fraud.

The XXI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate B. V. L. N. Chakravarthi pronounced oral orders to this effect. Mr. Raju made a brief appearance in the Court in the morning before being escorted back to Chanchalguda jail. The Magistrate is expected to give written orders on their bail applications later in the evening.

The accused in the Satyam Computers’ scam had applied for bail on August 1 based on the Supreme Court’s orders that they were free to approach the trial court if the trial was not completed for any reason before July 31. The Apex Court passed the order while cancelling the bail granted by the Andhra Pradesh High Court to Mr. Raju and others. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) subsequently challenged the High Court’s orders granting bail to Mr. Raju on health grounds.
