Visakhapatnam: Under he auspices of Visakha Buddhist Associations Confederation it is proposed to conduct a Bouddhamela at Buddhnikonda (Bojjannakonda) Ankapalli on 16th January from 9.AM onwards as per a press note released by the District Convenor Bora Venugopal Gautam. Ven Baddhanta Panya Lok Thero, a Bouddha Bikshu from Assam, and national council member All India Bikku Society will hoist the flag. Arrangements have been made for an exhibition of books on Buddhist literature, release of 2012 Buddah Calender, distribution of 10,000 leaflets on the history of Buddhuni Konda. At the main vihar peace prayers and preaching of Damma will be conducted on 14th & 15th.
Many leaders of various Buddhist organisations from different parts of the state are expected to participate in the Bouddhamela at Buddhnikonda/Bojjannakonda Floral tributes will be paid to Gautama Buddha, Buddhist Anagarika Dharmapala and Buddhist Dr B.R.Ambedkar. As against 318 Buddhist centres actually existing the Archaeological Survey of India has recognised only 154 such centres. About 40% Buddhist stupas and Buddhist vihars of the whole country are in AP itself. Many of them are in a bad shape and require immediate renovation.
Accroding to K. Venkataramana they are going to have a meeting with the District Collector on 17th of this month to safeguard the Buddhist Aarams at Bhimili Totlakonda, Bavikonda Pavuralakonda, Anakapalli Bojjannakonda and many such places.
Mr. Babulu, president District Mahabodhi Society demanded that Bojjanakonda at Anakapalli should be renamed as Buddhnikonda. Many others from various Buddhist organisations also took part in the deliberations.
