"The drowning man is not troubled by rain”
The morning coffee shows on Telugu News channels have only one topic on whether the CBI would arrest Jaganmohan Reddy or whether the young and frustrated rebel is in a position to withstand the latest move of Congress or the decision of YS Jagan loyalists to resign would lead to the fall of the state government..
It is all non-stop hyperbole. It seems there are no issues of importance in the state. The governance for the last several months is left to the winds, while the opposition too joining hands with ruling party to do everything to indulge in one-upmanship and somehow showing least concern for whatever anarchy prevailed in the state.
Surprisingly, when the mood of whole nation is supporting the anti-corruption movement, the people of Andhra Pradesh led by their moron political leadership is being pushed to take sides in deciding whether YS Jagan is guilty of corruption or the Congress has ordered the CBI enquiry out its political vendetta. The whole nation is demanding the punishment against the corrupt, the AP state paradoxically is in dilemma to take sides of corrupted.
In Andhra Pradesh it was a week of miscellany politics with all the polemics revolved around moves more to corner Jagan and to divert the attention of the people from the misgovernance of Congress in handling various delicate issues that have been rocking the state post-YSR.
The path ahead for Jagan looks bumpy with the CBI relentlessly making efforts to gather all conceivable evidences to make a strong case against him. A man who had stormed into the political circles with his challenging dissent finds himself on a quagmire today thanks to the whole lot of corruption cases that are likely to stumble out once CBI finishes its exercise.
The rebel who once thought was a formidable force that would decimate Congress in AP is somehow on “Backfoot” and looking for means to weather an all out attack on him from all corners.
Thus, the decision by his loyalists to resign for their legislative and party posts can be seen as nothing but a straw being grasped by the drowning man.
The battle ahead for Jagan is sure going to be tough and the Central Bureau of Investigation has a plan on hand to deal in this case. The strategy adopted by the CBI is clear and from the point of political perspective is going according to the directions of Congress high-command.
But, whatever might be the political motive behind the sudden interest of CBI to rock both the financial edifice and reputation of Jagan, it seems the Congress had stirred the hornet’s nest.
The move now has taken unexpected turn, even a writer of political thriller would not have expected such an intriguing plot. The sudden decision of Jagan loyalists to enact resignation drama has come like a bolt from the blue to Telangana protagonists, particularly to KCR who has been holding his head on how to make the so called “sakala janula Samme” a success, after his tactics of resignations failed to achieve his political objectives.
Whether, the speaker accepts the resignations of `Jagan supporters or not, KCR and his gang is likely to intensify the pressure on Telangana congress leaders to flare up their resignation demand and whip up the frenzy of just subsiding movement.
While, the situation no doubt would be embarrassing for Telangana congress leaders, it might hurry the TDP supremo to reassess his game plan on no-confidence motion. He would be, as a leader of main opposition party under immense pressure to move a no-confidence motion, if the state government fell into minority as a result of resignations. He would be in a catch 20 situation and the allegations of his match-fixing with Congress would be vindicated, if he remains silent on moving no-confidence motion.
Some political observers however believe that there will be no logical end to this battle between Jagan and the Congress. There is likely to be an arrangement between the two. One of his supporters even said, “we think he will go back to the Congress.” The Congress is desperate for a mass leader and Jagan has now realized that it is one thing to win a solitary battle in Kadapa and a whole other thing to win the entire state. Although the question of Jagan returning to the Congress is a distant possibility at the moment, there could be some other compromise between the two and the first one being a no poaching arrangement.
Therefore, the drama of resignations would raise curtains for steps towards first compromise on no poaching arrangement.
Till such time the people of Andhra Pradesh would be subjected to the Non-stop hyperbole of ongoing politics.
Like a drowning man is not interested in rain, the politicians in AP hardly have any concern for peoples’ interests than subject them to dance to their politics.
Politics is thought to be dirty, but not so ugly and vulgar.
